According to the 2010 United States Census, Montana had an estimated population of 989,000.  Of these residents, about 22.6 percent were under 18 years of age, 62.6 percent were between 18 and 65 years old, and 14.9 percent were over 65 years old.  Roughly 50.3 percent of the state's population were males and 49.7 percent were females.  The median age of Montana residents was 39.8 years, compared to the median age of 37.2 years for all United States residents.
