According to the 2010 United States Census, Pennsylvania had an estimated population of 12,702,000.  Of these residents, about 22.0 percent were under 18 years of age, 62.6 percent were between 18 and 65 years old, and 15.4 percent were over 65 years old.  Roughly 48.7 percent of the state's population were males and 51.3 percent were females.  The median age of Pennsylvania residents was 40.1 years, compared to the median age of 37.2 years for all United States residents.
