According to the 2010 United States Census, Illinois had an estimated population of 12,831,000.  Of these residents, about 24.4 percent were under 18 years of age, 63.1 percent were between 18 and 65 years old, and 12.5 percent were over 65 years old.  Roughly 49.0 percent of the state's population were males and 51.0 percent were females.  The median age of Illinois residents was 36.6 years, compared to the median age of 37.2 years for all United States residents.
